May Pen, Clarendon — A local businessman is now facing a slate of criminal charges stemming from a midday confrontation that allegedly turned violent and threatening in the heart of Bushy Park.

David Morris, a 44-year-old resident of Central Avenue, has been charged with assault at common law, assault occasioning bodily harm, malicious destruction of property, and use of a firearm to commit a felony. The charges follow a tense dispute that reportedly escalated well beyond words.

Investigators say the altercation occurred around 1:30 p.m. when Morris and another man became embroiled in a disagreement. During the dispute, Morris is accused of physically attacking the man, tearing his shirt, and escalating the situation by drawing his licensed firearm. According to the allegations, Morris pointed the weapon at the man and issued verbal threats.

The matter was swiftly reported to law enforcement, prompting an investigation that led to Morris’s arrest.

Police sources confirm that Morris was formally charged following a review of the incident. However, the date for his court appearance remains pending.

The incident has stirred concern within the community, particularly around the responsible handling of licensed firearms and the conduct of public figures in conflict resolution.
